ANOTHER DISMISSAL FOR MOTHER AND DAUGHTER ACCUSED OF SHOPLIFTING FROM A STORE

Erick Cruz obtains the dismissal of grand theft charges against a mother and her pregnant daughter at their first court appearance.  The women were shopping inside a store when a store security officer allegedly observed them removing merchandise from its packaging and concealing it in their bags and walking out of the store without paying.  The women were detained, arrested and taken to jail.

Shortly after their release from jail, they contacted and hired Erick Cruz to represent them.  Erick immediately got to work on their case and contacted the prosecutor to explain the situation to him.  Erick told the prosecutor that the women, who were visiting from a foreign country did not intend on stealing the items.  Erick explained to the prosecutor that the women got into an argument at the store causing the mother to leave.  The daughter, who was pregnant, followed after her mother to calm her down.  As she walked out, she unknowingly carried with her some items that store security said she had removed from its packaging.  The prosecutor agreed that there was not enough evidence to charge the women and dismissed the charges at the first court hearing.  The women, who were tourists, were relieved to have their cases dismissed because it will allow them to return to the United States in the future.
