A mother and her daughter arrested and charged with grand theft after they were caught shoplifting saw their charges dismissed at their arraignment. The women were shopping inside a store when a store security officer allegedly observed them concealing merchandise and walking out of the store without paying. The women were detained, arrested and taken to jail.
Shortly after their release from jail, they contacted and hired Erick Cruz to represent them. Erick immediately got to work on their case and contacted the prosecutor to explain the situation to him. Erick told the prosecutor that the women, who had no criminal record, mistakenly walked out of the store with the merchandise. Erick explained to the prosecutor that the women did not intend on shoplifting as they had enough money to pay for the merchandise and had purchased other items at the same time. The prosecutor agreed that there was not enough evidence to charge the women and dismissed the charges at the first court hearing. The women, who were not United States citizens were relieved to have their cases dismissed because it will not interfere with their immigration status. They are also eligible to expunge their arrest record from public record searches.
